Apprentice of the year - Business Admin, Retail & Customer Service

Jennifer Barton

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board

Jennifer worked under extreme pressure on the front line during the pandemic and has been promoted from receptionist to clinical service co-ordinator.

Beginning her Apprenticeship in Business Administration whilst working as a receptionist in Ysbyty Gwynedd’s A&E Department, she was seconded to the Enfys field hospital to set up a reception area at the start of pandemic before being transferred to the vaccination programme.

Using the skills and confidence gained while studying her apprenticeship, she has since merited three promotions. She contributed to achieving the Welsh Government’s ambitious vaccination targets for North West Wales to safeguard the local population.

Demonstrating consistent enthusiasm to learn and develop her skills, Jennifer is now responsible for rostering a multidisciplinary team of more than 150 staff. She is described by colleagues as calm, patient and professional.
