Given extra responsibilities, Gareth continues to learn and train new staff members in his department. He has adapted well to the pressures of being a new dad and leading a team.

Apprentice of the year - Hospitality

Victoria Mylchreest-Jones

Myddleton College

Victoria has gone from a full-time mum to catering manager at Myddleton College in Denbighshire with the assistance of a Foundation Apprenticeship in Food Production and Cookery (Level 2) and lots of hard work.

Starting work at the college in May 2021 as a kitchen assistant, she enrolled on her apprenticeship in February 2022 and completed it six months later whilst working full time and making time for her family. Being dyslexic, she adapted her way of working to achieve her qualification.

Victoria is now combining an Apprenticeship in Hospitality, Leadership and Supervision (Level 3) with running a busy kitchen, which caters for more than 200 students and special events. Her employer describes her as “an inspiration”.
