Dewi Aron Thomas is the Apprentice of the Year - Management and Business Services.

Dewi is an Employee of Babcock International Group, based at RAF Valley. Enrolled as an apprentice in 2016 he quickly progressed to become a qualified technician providing maintenance and repair on Hawk T2 aircraft, on which all future fast jet pilots train.

Always ambitious, Dewi performs his duties to the very highest level and is extremely motivated to progress beyond his current role and take on more responsibility.

He stands out within his peer group, often supporting his colleagues and is currently coaching a new apprentice, ensuring that he becomes instilled with the values of the organisation and the responsibilities that come with the role of aircraft technician.

In order to progress, Dewi enrolled on a Diploma in Team Leading Level 2 Apprenticeship which he completed to a high standard. He demonstrated self-motivation, required minimum supervision and consistently achieved very high marks. He also provided excellent examples of work-based evidence to support his statements.

Dewi has since gone on to complete the Level 3 Diploma in Management and He is now determined to undertake further vocational training at level 4.

Dewi’s level of maturity is reflected in the responsibilities of his job role and the diligent manner in which he has achieved his nationally recognised qualifications.

Dewi’s assessor, Menai Williams describes him as: “an extremely pleasant young man who is a hard worker and continually strives to improve and develop additional knowledge and skills. He is ambitious, both for himself and the standard of work delivered by his organisation. It has been a pleasure to observe Dewi's progress and to see the influence he has with colleagues, sharing his knowledge and desire for excellent performance.”

As an independent family-owned business, the Royal Oak and its associated venues know the benefits of developing skills within our people and the asset that brings to the hospitality industry across the whole of North Wales. We have a responsibility to support and offer the people who work for us those opportunities and this Award ensures we celebrate that success with all apprentices who are committed to personal development.
