Tim Dykins Shortlisted apprenticeship

Timothy Dykins

Holywell Community Hospital

Ex-firefighter Timothy Dykins has ignited a new career in the healthcare profession where he is being noticed for his hard work, dedication and compassion.

Timothy is a Healthcare Support Worker at Holywell Community Hospital, part of the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board where he has completed a Foundation Apprenticeship in Clinical Healthcare ahead of schedule.

He is now progressing to Level 3 Diploma and enhancing his communication skills by learning British Sign Language at college in his own time.

As the infection control champion for his ward, Tim plays a vital role in maintaining the health and safety of both patients and staff and helps rehabilitate patients to regain their strength and independence so that they can return home.

He is making an important contribution to patient centred care in the hospital and, combined with his passion for learning, is a positive role model.

Jade Botha shorlisted apprentice

Jade Botha

Bodrwnsiwn Veterinary Practice Group

Jade Botha is well on the way to a career as a veterinary nurse Bodrwnsiwn Veterinary Practice Group in North Wales.

She worked diligently to complete a Veterinary Nursing Assistant Level 2 Diploma with high grades and has now progressed to a Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing.

Her tutor describes Jade as “bright and engaging” and having an inquiring mind as she delves deeper for a greater understanding of information. She works hard in clinical placement to ensure that theoretical knowledge is supported by practical experience.

An integral, hardworking team member, Jade has moved seamlessly into the Veterinary Nursing Apprenticeship with an invigorated passion and her enquiring mind is said to be infectious.

Jade sets herself high standards in her own work and patients entrusted to her.

Naganarayanan Ramamoorthy shortlisted apprentice

Naganarayanan Ramamoorthy

St George’s Hotel, Llandudno

Naganarayanan Ramamoorthy was promoted to a junior management position at St George’s Hotel, Llandudno after completing a City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Food Production and Cooking three months early.

He began his Foundation Apprenticeship in September, 2023, having moved to Wales from Saudi Arabia alone with the goal of gaining knowledge and experience for a career in the culinary arts.

Naganarayanan has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to his qualification, consistently displaying a high level of professionalism, always eager to learn and frequently requesting extra assignments to challenge himself.

Despite being far from his family in India, with limited opportunities to visit, Naganarayanan has impressed his head chef and colleagues with his dedication to learn, progress and support others.

His tutor describes him as a role model for future apprentices pursuing similar paths.


Ryan Wood shortlisted apprentice

Ryan Wood

Argoed High School

Ryan Wood is a young man on a mission to develop a rewarding and challenging career in the digital world.

Following his A Levels, he secured a job with Ap-Prentis which led to a work placement at Argoed High School as an IT technician as part of a Foundation Apprenticeship in IT, Web, Software and Telecoms.

Ryan impressed his tutor with his clear vision of the pathway he needed to take to secure Degree Apprenticeship in Cyber Security which he is now doing with Grŵp Llandrillo Menai in partnership with Bangor University.

During his school placement, he supported hundreds of students and teachers, boosting his knowledge of data modelling and database software in the process.

His tutor describes Ryan as a fantastic example of the digital talent available in North Wales and says it’s great that he is developing his career in the region.


Sadie Gittins shortlisted apprentice

Sadie Gittins

Halkyn Mountain Kids Club

Sadie Gittins’ confidence, knowledge and skills have blossomed since she completed a Foundation Apprenticeship in Playwork at Halkyn Mountain Kids Club.

Supported by her tutor and employer, she has been transformed from a young person uncertain about her academic abilities and fearing failure to a valuable and confident team member.

After completing her qualification, Sadie secured a part-time role as a teaching assistant at the school alongside her work as a playworker with the kids club. She has also been chosen by her employer to mentor the next Level 2 learner.

“Sadie consistently shows a strong commitment to her role and possesses a thorough understanding of her responsibilities,” said Gemma McLeod, senior supervisor “Her dedication and increased self-assurance have made her an invaluable member of our team.”
