Employers in this category are suggested by our experienced work-based learning delivery team. The companies shortlisted have accessed the Welsh Government Apprenticeship programme to support their workforce planning and development and have shown a commitment to supporting apprentices - in some cases over many years.

The winner will be selected by an expert panel from Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, stakeholders and the private sector in North Wales.

Joloda Hydraroll have always strived to give learners the best possible chance to thrive and achieve their best. The company’s supervisors and mentors have always been highly knowledgeable, approachable and supportive with years of valuable industry experience to share.

Foreman Billy Evans goes above and beyond to support his apprentices, he’s exceptionally dedicated to student development, consistently welcoming work experience learners and fostering a supportive environment.

Billy collaborates closely with the grŵp to select apprentices from both full-time and work experience cohorts, but he also goes above and beyond to support their success. As an employer who takes on apprentices from diverse sectors, including engineering and welding, Billy’s enthusiasm and dedication make him a truly outstanding mentor and partner.

Treaddur Bay Hotel

Trearddur Bay Hotel

The Trearddur Bay Hotel supported 36 Work Based Hospitality Apprenticeships during the last four years. They actively promote work based learning and understand the value of apprenticeships and investing in the team.

Manager, James Harper encourages staff old and new to develop themselves in the workplace and where appropriate promotes and supports apprenticeship both level 2 and level 3. Staff are able to work towards a qualification in housekeeping, front of house, restaurant, kitchen or bar service.

James and the other managers are very interested in how all the learners are progressing, if they need any extra support from the hotel and will always help in any way they can.

The Hotel supports the grŵp by attending career events, taking part in promotional campaigns, attending careers events and meeting the employer events and more.

Ysgol y Gogarth

Ysgol Gogarth is committed to developing essential skills and qualifications enhancing the school’s ability to provide high-quality education and support to their learners, particularly in special education, a commitment which positively impacts staff and learners.

Since 2024 has enrolled 14 staff members on apprenticeship programmes with Achieve More Training, these include Supporting Teaching and Learning and Learning and Development. By prioritising its team’s professional development, the school has fostered a supportive environment where staff feel valued and motivated to stay and grow within the organisation.

Ysgol y Gogarth is now organising a second round of apprenticeships for staff. This continued effort demonstrates their long-term commitment to continuous professional development, this approach has led to improvements across the school, contributing to both staff satisfaction and learner success.

Ysgol Gwynedd

Ysgol Gwynedd in Flintshire stands out for its strategic use of apprenticeships to support workforce planning and development. The school ensures that staff are equipped with the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to ensure they provide the best environment and experience for their pupils and school community.

Headteacher Dewi Wyn-Hughes worked with Achieve More Training to access Leadership and Management higher apprenticeships for staff apply within the education context.

Ysgol Gwynedd has now expanded apprenticeship opportunities to school staff these include playwork, supporting teaching and learning (TA’s) and learning and development (Assessors). They also utilised the shared apprenticeship scheme offered through Ap-prentis and have recently taken on 2 new apprentices as new staff to start their careers in Education.

Training lead for Health and Social Care, Delyth Jones has worked in partnership with Grŵp Llandrillo Menai and coordinates all work based learning and apprenticeships in the Health & Social Care sector.

Cyngor Gwynedd has worked with Grŵp Llandrillo Menai for over 15 years. During this time, the support, dedication and commitment to apprenticeships that she has shown is outstanding. Delyth is fully aware of the challenges facing employers, local authorities and training providers, she works with the individual managers of the care services, providing additional support to learners wherever needed, as well as to the assessors to ensure that the learner journey is effective, successful and runs as smoothly as possible.

This training partnership is incredibly important, providing skilled workers for the health and social care sector in Gwynedd and Delyth’s expertise has enabled many people to gain qualifications and progress at work.
